Grants to realise big ideas for agriculture from young rural innovators





Applications are now open for the 2023 Science and Innovation Awards for Young People in Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry! This competitive annual grants program supports young Australians aged 18-35 by funding projects that will benefit Australia's primary industries. In partnership with Australia's leading research and development corporations and industry associations, there are 12 industry categories each worth up to $22,000 (GST inclusive). Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, Murray Watt launched the 2023 Science and Innovation Awards calling for the next generation of researchers to come forward. “These grants provide funding to take projects from concept to research and testing that will deliver genuine outcomes for the agriculture sector,” Minister Watt said. Who can apply? You need to answer ‘yes’ to these questions ✓ You're working or studying in an agriculture, fisheries or forestry related industry. ✓ You're between 18 and 35 years old. ✓ You're an Australian citizen or permanent resident. ✓ You have an original research project idea that addresses a significant, longstanding or emerging agricultural issue. ✓ You're dedicated to the future of rural and regional industries.

What are the categories? There are 12 industry award categorise

  • adoption ready innovation and technology, sponsored by AgriFutures Australia

  • biosecurity and digital innovation, sponsored by CSIRO Biosecurity digital innovation

  • Cotton, sponsored by Cotton Research and Development Corporation

  • eggs and poultry (layers), sponsored by Australian Eggs

  • fisheries and aquaculture, sponsored by Fisheries Research and Development Corporation

  • forest and wood products, sponsored by Forest & Wood Products Australia

  • Grains, sponsored by Grains Research and Development Corporation

  • Horticulture, sponsored by Horticulture Innovation

  • Pork, sponsored by Australian Pork Limited

  • red meat processing sponsored by Australian Meat Processor Corporation

  • viticulture and oenology, sponsored by Wine Australia

  • Wool, sponsored by Australian Wool Innovation

Each category includes a $22,000 grant, and is generously supported by our Science Award partners from the research and development corporations and industry organisations.
