From Idea to MVP, Practical Ways People Are Actually Using AI

AI is everywhere right now. But for many people, the question isn’t what it is, it’s how to actually use it in a way that’s useful

In our latest F2F TEKWOMEN Lunch & Learn, Amanda Ducrou and Alexander Cohen shared how they used AI to build a working MVP for Three Hat Robotics in just six weeks, and more importantly, how they’re using it day to day. Here are the key takeaways.

1. Use AI as a teacher, not just a tool

The biggest shift isn’t what AI can do, it’s how you use it. Instead of asking for answers, use it to understand:

  • “Explain this to me like I’m a beginner”

  • “Break this down step by step”

  • “What do I need to know before I do this?”

This is how Amanda and Alexander learned entirely new domains quickly

2. Don’t trust it blindly, prompt it better

One of the simplest ways to improve output:

  • Ask for sources

  • Ask it to check itself

  • Re-prompt if something feels off

A simple line like: “Can you verify this is correct and cite references? can significantly improve quality.

3. Start with your pain points, not the tech

Most people start with: “How do I use AI?” Instead, start with:

  • What’s repetitive?

  • What takes too long?

  • What do I avoid doing?

Then test AI there. That’s where the immediate value is.

4. Use AI to speed up thinking, not replace it

The team didn’t use AI to “build everything for them.” They used it to:

  • clarify thinking

  • explore options

  • pressure test ideas

  • learn faster

The outcome wasn’t just speed, it was better decisions.

5. The barrier to building is now incredibly low

One of the clearest messages: You no longer need to wait. With the right prompts and persistence, you can:

  • prototype ideas

  • build simple tools

  • test concepts quickly

The gap is no longer technical, it’s behavioural.

6. Keep it simple to start

You don’t need complex systems. Start with:

  • summarising emails or notes

  • drafting and refining communication

  • preparing for meetings

  • organising your thinking

Then build from there.

A final thought

The people getting the most from AI aren’t necessarily the most technical. They’re the ones who are:

  • experimenting

  • asking better questions

  • and using it consistently

As shared in the session, “the more you use it, the faster you learn, and the faster you move.”

Start small. Stay curious. And use it as a tool to think better, not just do more.
