Ideas Program

When do applications open?

Applications will open later this year- keep an eye on our socials and sign up for our newsletter to stay updated

How do I apply?

Once applications are open we will ask you to complete a registration form. The Farmers2Founders team will use your responses to the application form to shortlist applicants. Shortlisted applicants will be contacted for interviews. Applicants that are not shortlisted will be notified by email.

How will applications be evaluated / what are you looking for?

Applications will first be screened for eligibility. We will then evaluate ideas based on their potential for industry impact and/or commercial feasibility. We will look for evidence that there are potential customers for this product or service, or that it provides an industry wide positive impact that will make venture succeed.

When does the Program Kickoff?

The next Ideas Program will kick off in the second half of 2020 - date TBD

How long does the program go for?

12 weeks following kickoff

Do I need to have an idea for a business or technology?

Yes. You do not have to have started building it, though. And it does not have to be a technology- food, foodtech, and value chain innovations are also welcome to apply.

Do I need to be a primary producer?

Yes, each team must have at least one primary producer involved.

What are the key benefits?

This program is designed to help you test the potential of your idea, and determine how far you want to take it. Each participant will have different goals, such as industry impact, getting closer to consumers, building a big technology company, or creating an additional revenue stream- that’s ok! We will help you get started, and give you the tools you need to make progress toward your goal. Things you will learn include:

  • how to operate using the best practices, processes, and tools that successful entrepreneurs use
  • how to know if your idea is worth pursuing
  • what resources will be required to achieve your goals, and how to attract them

Is this the only program you’ll run?

No, we expect to launch regular programs. Sign up to the mailing list to stay in the loop.

What else do I get?

You will receive expert coaching and mentoring, funding, weekly exercises, access to a national community of progressive producers, and more.

Does it cost anything?

No, but you contribute $1k toward your venture. This does not go to coaching or the program, you get this money to spend on program activities.

Do you take equity?

No!

How many hours per week will I need to commit?

The 12 week program will be intense, but like most things, the more you put in, the more you get out. Over the 12 week program we expect you to spend 6-10 hours/week on your venture.

Who are the coaches and mentors?

The main program coaches are Christine Pitt, Sarah Nolet, and Cass Mao. Program mentors will be selected based on the participants in each program, but will include experienced entrepreneurs, producer-led new venture teams, and experts in key skills (e.g., website design, product design, accessing capital, digital marketing, etc.).

How many teams will be accepted?

12 teams

Where is the program located?

Location TBD

How can I learn more or ask questions?

Email admin@farmers2founders.com

Do you own my IP?

No!

How does the program work?

Each week, we will have a group check in where we review the exercises from the previous week, go over new training material, and often have a guest lecture from an industry expert. You will also be given a mentor and/or coach that will provide custom guidance and support for you and your team. At the end of the 12 week program, you will have a clear idea of whether you want to scale your venture, and what it will take. You will also have a new toolkit to help you maximise your impact.

Will we receive support to travel to the kickoff?

Yes, a travel subsidy will be provided to support travel to this event.
