Gaethan Cutri

Gaethan  Cutri owns and runs Cutri Fruit- Australia’s largest stone fruit

farming business. Cutri Fruit is focused on large volume production of the

highest quality stone fruit, and supplies to both domestic supermarkets

and overseas suppliers.

One of the biggest problems with operating such large farms is to do with

labour management, and tracking the efficiencies of individual pickers.

Gaethan came into the Ideas Program with a super clear understanding of
the problem and why is was worth solving.

Gaethan had an idea that would allow him to remove the lowest performing pickers, and therefore improve efficiency while minimising costs. Gaethan’s idea was the gamification of fruit picking, i.e. an app that would measure and track the accuracy and speed of pickers, therefore hopefully improving the overall efficiency of the staff.

Gaethan wanted to jump straight into building the software, getting quotes for between $40-100,000. Gaethan was unsure at this point if he wanted to commercialise the idea or just use it for his own farms.

By participating in the Ideas Program, Gaethan realised that he could create a prototype of the product for free and test it on his own farm. Through this, Gaethan was able to test if his assumptions were right, and if his solution effectively solved the problem, all while not having to spend $100,000

Gaethan came into the program with the goal of understanding what he is missing in order to commercialise the Pick App- both for his own business as well as to sell to external parties. Gaethan was attracted to the Farmers2Founders Ideas Program because of the assistance it offered in helping him achieve his goals with taking his Pick App idea to the next level. The program encouraged Gaethan to spend more time thinking about the problem before the solution, which he found incredibly valuable.

By the end of the program, Gaethan had a strong value proposition for his customer, and was getting the prototype of his app developed.

Gaethan will be attending evokeAG in Melbourne in February 2020 as a presenter to talk about his business.
